How is Social Media Good?

Social media is a great tool for communicating with family and friends, but bad effects of social networking on children and teenagers have not yet been widely talked about. It is also used by parents to connect with their kids. However, teenagers are not necessarily happy with this form of sharing. They often talk about the negative aspects of social networking.

Facebook was one of the first social media websites designed for adults and kids. Today, Facebook has hundreds of millions of users and has become the most popular website in the world. Users can post messages, share pictures, and connect with others through instant messaging. The primary function of Facebook is to give us information about ourselves.

“There is nothing more powerful than seeing something that will change your life, seeing it as you never have before” – Evan Williams Facebook is the number one internet marketing company today. People can share and network with their friends all around the world. But the truth is, the “bad guys” or the internet predators will try to take advantage of this free opportunity. Here is an example:

“How is social media good or bad?” This sentence alone may be enough to scare someone off social media sites. In fact, in this sentence, I included the word “bad”. It is interesting how this sentence was not immediately flagged by a search engine.

“How is social media bad or good? If we look at the longer list of examples, there is no simple answer to this question. It is a matter of opinion and each person has their own personal opinion.

“How is social media bad if we use words such as “sextortion, sexual harassment, bullying, fraud, and violence”? The truth is, you should not even include these words in your sentence because they will scare some people away. However, if you use them as a part of a bigger statement, it may work. In fact, some companies have used these words to great effect when they were defending their products or service.

“People who use social media feel good about themselves and have high self-esteem. They have more friends and are often attractive to other people.” Again, there is a flip side to this. If you are a depressed person who uses social media to escape your reality, you could become very depressed very quickly. If you are an attractive person looking to attract people, then you will find it very difficult to get people to like and trust you.

The bottom line is that you really need to think about how a sentence can work for either situation. “People feel good about themselves and have high self-esteem because they use social media.” Or “It’s easy to make new friends on Facebook.” The first sentence is true of both situations but the second sentence only works if you are building your social media identity by making new friends and attracting new people to your life, while the first sentence would work if you were just trying to avoid the problem of depression.

“People who use social media today say they would be happier if they never had to see anyone again. People who use social media today are more connected to others and have better communication. People who use social media today are happier with their relationships and their lives than people who do not use them.” Those statements are true and they may be good reasons to be connected to others and to be in better shape mentally and physically. Those things are all true if you are doing the right things to connect to others.

So is social media important to overcome depression? Well it is important because cyberbullying is on the rise and it has reached epidemic proportions. I am not saying that cyberbullying is a good thing but it is still wrong and you can do something about it. What I am saying is that you have to know how to identify it and overcome it. Social media allows you to build a cyberbullies reputation, it allows you to create your online persona, it allows you to put it out there for the world to see. You can then be the cyber bully and you will be able to see the consequences of what you are doing.

Social media can be a great thing to help you overcome depression but you have to be careful. You have to be careful because you can put yourself out there and have a good way of making yourself feel better about yourself but then you can do something terrible which will make you feel worse. It is just a matter of being smart about how you use social media. So, you need a good way of competitive analysis and you need to understand what pros and cons of social media that you should keep in mind.
